ELEC1710 : Introduction to Electrodiagnosis

This course provides an introduction to electrodiagnosis including history, concepts, techniques, and instruments used in recording physiological activity. Students will engage in a variety of learning activities to explore the Polysomnographic and Neurodiagnostic career fields and establish foundational concepts. Emphasis will be placed on ensuring electrical safety, electrode application, patient care and history, and reviewing normal electrodiagnostic activity. In the lab, students will receive hands-on experience using the International 10-20 System and other ancillary equipment to measure EMG, EKG and respiration. Students will also become familiar with specific Electrodiagnostic verbiage. Students will also learn medical terminology as well as discuss issues related to medical law and ethics.
